Illuminate Colorado RVs

Illuminating Child Care, a service of Illuminate Colorado, provides mobile child care classrooms to support parents and caregivers facing challenges such as mental health issues, substance use disorders and employment barriers. The program offers on-site child care at locations where caregivers are receiving support, helping to strengthen families by improving access to care. The project involved sourcing and renovating recreational vehicles (RVs) to serve as mobile classrooms for infants and toddlers. This required designing interiors that cater to young children and collaborating on vehicle-specific themes and artwork for both the interior and exterior. The client needed functional vehicles that could be easily operated by teachers—not commercial drivers—and simple to maintain while meeting county-specific child care guidelines. Proctor Productions worked to select the right vehicle type, retrofit it to comply with regulations and design interiors that provided a safe and nurturing environment for children. With four completed RVs, the mobile classrooms offer drop-in care and are designed to foster learning through play and hands-on exploration. Age-appropriate features like climbing stairs, a book nook and toddler-sized facilities were integrated into the design. Parents and caregivers can confidently leave their children with the dedicated teachers on board the Proctor-fabricated RVs, knowing their children are in a safe and enriching environment while they receive the support they need to strengthen their families.
