Outdoor Retailer has named Denver the new home of its three annual trade shows.
The Outdoor Industry Association’s sudden decision to move out of Utah, where the trade show’s have called home for 20 years, came about as a result of a controversy involving the protection of public lands in Utah. The outdoor-oriented show host decided to pull out of a city that seemed to lack respect for the very environment that drives OR’s industries: the outdoors.
Many cities were in the running for the trade shows’ new home, but Denver checked ALL of the boxes.
“Denver and the state of Colorado are passionate about protecting and nurturing outdoor recreation, which is critical to the growth of our industry. (Denver) is the undeniable industry choice, and basing the show in a state that places such a high value on outdoor recreation is the best move we can make for the outdoor industry. As outdoor recreation evolves, outdoor businesses need to stand together and adapt to those changes in order to successfully move forward.”
With the move to Denver is expected an influx of profit to the city, upwards of $110M per year, not to mention a healthy surge in business for local trade show industry leaders.
The first OR appearance in Denver will take place in January, 2018, with the Winter Outdoor Retailer + Snow Show. The Outdoor Retailer Winter Market show will merge with the newly-acquired SIA Snow Show, which historically has taken place in Denver.
